Alice:
Which way should I go?
Cat: That depends on where you are going.
Alice: I don’t know where I’m going.
Cat: Then any direction will get you there.

engaging, intriguing, challenging, and 'purposeful'
when you are on a defined path, giving everything you've
got to a vision that has highly desirable rewards and
deeply held meanings for you."

Greetings!
The
last few weeks I have been working on several projects that
have taken all my extra time. This past Friday was the completion
date of the biggest one, and such a weight has been lifted,
it feels like I have been given 20 extra hours in my week!
Yesterday,
reassessing my project list and deadlines, I discovered
some interesting things about myself and about "time".
The article below gives you the details.....
Also,
I've got lots of ideas brewing for articles, books, meditations,
and yes, even podcasts! - I could really use your feedback
on that one. See the What's Happening section
below.
And
because all these ideas are swirling, I've decided to go
back to publishing this newsletter only once a month. So
I'll check in with you on the 2nd Tuesday of each month
beginning November.
Enjoy
the rest of the issue!

P.S.
What's happening with you?? What are your challenges or
concerns? Is this newsletter useful to you? Are there any
specific subjects or areas you'd like to see covered? I've
created a survey to find out more about you and your needs.
If you haven't filled it out yet, I invite you to do so
by clicking
here.*
Questions are answered completely anonymously.
Many thanks!
*(Survey
opens in a separate window. After you finish, you'll be
taken to www.surveymonkey.com, the service I used to make
this anonymous. Just close that window to come back to the
newsletter.)
Do
You Know Where You're Going?
What's
the point of your life?
What do you value?
What gives your life meaning?
Take
one of those questions - which ever one resonates with you
- and write it on the top of a clean sheet of paper. Then
make a list of whatever comes to you. Don't judge, just
write down what comes to your mind.
I did
this exercise this morning using the question, "What
gives my life meaning?" and had some interesting aha's.
"Having
time" was the big issue for me. Having time to create
and to actually finish a project.... Having time to think
and ponder, or to just BE.... Having time to stay organized
and follow through....
I also realized
that I don't always make decisions and choices that give
me the time I need.
For instance,
I was looking forward to NOT teaching a class at a local
university this next semester. I was really looking forward
to using that time to finish up some creative projects that
are in various stages of development.
BUT,
helping out a friend and helping to fill in the teaching
load with a professor going on sabbatical, I took on another
class anyway - a NEW one that meets 5 days a week instead
of 3!
My reasoning
at the time, was that this would be a "no brainer"
class (meaning, I already know the material, so no studying
on my part), and it would get me up, dressed, and out early
so that I could come back home ready to work on my projects.
It's
an 8:00 a.m. class. I'd be back at my office by 10:00 at
the latest. I figured since I typically don't get really
working until late morning anyway, this would give me incentive
to dig in and get to it once I got back.
Now, looking
at it... knowing that having time is a major value to me...
the original "logic" of that decision doesn't
seem very logical to me know!
Especially
since my schedule WOULD have had two free days with no outside
commitments where I could spend those whole days in creativity
heaven.
Also,
I love sitting out on my back deck in the early morning,
drinking coffee, letting my mind wander, and just BEing....
Another
activity that gives my life meaning.
Hm....
guess I forgot about that one too!
How
about you?
Are you making
decisions and choices based on your values and what gives
your life meaning?
What's
the point of your life?
What do you value?
What gives your life meaning?
The answer to
those questions will act as a guidepost to your life and
to all the daily choices and decisions you make. They will
give your life direction.
I challenge
you to take some time and answer these questions for yourself.
Write them down and then put them in the front of your calendar,
on your computer, on the fridge, on the bathroom mirror.......
Somewhere that you will see them everyday!
So you
won't forget.... like I did...
By the
way... since I also value integrity and following through
on your word, as well as personal growth, I'm going ahead
with the new class. Also, since I'd already reneged on it
and another new class once, then was asked again to do the
easier class, I figure there must be a "gift"
in there somewhere - some "reason" I'm supposed
to teach this class.... I'll let you know what I discover!
