Greetings!
The beach
last week was fabulous! My husband and I really needed that
time of relaxation to just BE and dream and get in touch
with what’s really important.
We set
some intentions about our purpose – our mission in
life, both individually and as a team. I’ll be telling
you more about that later.
In this
issue, I’ll share some of my experiences in the on-going
lesson of letting go and “trusting.” I also
reveal my secret “motorcycle protection” song.
:)
Enjoy
the rest of the issue!

Trusting
the Process of Life
"Children
are curious and are risk takers. They have lots of courage.
They venture out into a world that is immense and dangerous.
A child initially trusts life and the processes of life."
-
John Bradshaw
Trusting
the process of life… that has been a long hard lesson
for me. As a teenager and young adult, I was impatient and
wanted things to happen or to be better NOW. As a result,
I spent the early years of my adult life trying to force
relationships that, looking back on them, sent me off in
little life tangents where I “sold my soul”
for a self-esteem fix.
All
in all thought, I learned a lot. And those experiences brought
me to where I am today.
"Life
is based on your self-confidence. When you trust yourself
that means you know you can do things. If you don't have
that trust, it means you're always going to have doubts
in your mind."
-
Sandy Alomar
Through
all the many life adventures, my confidence has grown. In
addition, those experiences have given me opportunities
to collect valuable information that enables me relate to
many, many different people in all walks of life.
And
I can finally say, even though I’m sometimes tempted
to “push” things along, I understand that there
IS a gestation period in just about everything in life,
and that no matter how much you long to, you can not “rush”
the process.
It takes
as long as it takes.... And that’s where trust comes
in.
"There
is only one thing for us to do, and that is to do our level
best right where we are every day of our lives. To use our
best judgment, and then to trust the rest to that Power
which holds the forces of the universe in his hands."
-

I
got a big lesson in trust at the beach last week.
Usually,
you can walk into the water and it gradually gets deeper.
At this beach, however, there was a pretty big drop off
about 10 steps into the water. And the waves were pretty
big too. This combination meant that my 4’10”
body needed some “floaties” just to keep my
head above water. (Thank goodness for those tootsie roll
looking tube floating things!)
My husband,
12 inches taller, could stand out there fine without any
floating assistance. But on this particular occasion, he
had come into the water with a float board.
The
tide was going out and there was a strong undercurrent.
Before long we realized that we were drifting farther and
farther out. So we turned and started back to shore.
I kept
trying to touch bottom as a way of gauging our progress.
But with the undercurrent, it felt like we were making no
headway at all. Kent was a few yards ahead of me. And after
what seemed like 10 minutes of all this work and getting
nowhere, I felt myself begin to go into panic.
I knew
intellectually that panicking would not help me, and that
it could possibly cause me to fall off my float. And it
seemed that Kent was too far away and the current too strong
for him to get to me if I went under.
So I
chose to “snap out of it” instead. I chose to
stay out of panic, to remain calm, and to continued in the
direction of the shore knowing that I was handling
the situation in the best way I could and trusting
that I would reach the shore safely.
Life
is a lot like that too.
"Everything
happens for a reason, I trust that it will be for the better.
Sometimes life works out in ways we can't comprehend, but
all we can do is react to what happens to us in the right
way."

Go
Deeper, Reach Higher
I invite you to
try on the "trusting" hat and fill your mind with
trust instead of anxiety this week.
When you find yourself
in one of those life "situations" and feel the
panic or other anxiety begin to rise, make a conscious choice
to snap out of it.
Then notice what
happens. Notice how you feel.
Did the situation
resolve itself? Was it easier to work toward a solution?
Were you more at ease and calm? Were you in a more "happy"
place when it was all over?
Make some notes
to yourself about the experience each time. Did it get easier
to "snap out of it" each time? Were you able to
side step the anxious feelings altogether?
"When
I'm trusting and being myself as fully as possible, everything
in my life reflects this by falling into place easily, often
miraculously."

Motorcycle
Update: Angel Protectors
I am proud to announce
that I have made it all the way up to 2nd gear
- and withOUT my training wheels! (Read the
background story: Fear
Lessons from a Newborn Motorcycle Mama.)
This
past Sunday, my 4th motorcycle practice session, I really
worked hard on trying to make the take off a “no brainer.”
Taking off – letting go of your foothold on the ground,
balancing, and moving forward involves a great sense of
“trust.” Trust in yourself and trust in that
"Power which holds the forces of the universe in his
hands.”
One
of the little “tricks” that has helped me is
my Angel Protectors Song. Amanda at GT
Choppers gave me the idea. She told me that the only
way she could get over her fear of “letting go”
when she was learning to ride was to keep singing a happy
or silly song over and over in her head.
So I
made up my own. I start singing it as I put on my riding
gear and you know what? It really does work!
ANGEL
PROTECTORS
There’s an angel to my left, an angel to my right;
an angel before me, an angel behind;
Angel above me, an angel below me
keeping me safe and strong all of the time.
The
bell you hear is The Gremlin Bell. Amanda and Tim put it
on every motorcycle they sell. Legend has it that a small
bell attached to your motorcycle, close to the ground, catches
the Evil Road Spirits. The Little Gremlins live on your
motorcycle causing all kinds of mechanical problems. The
cavity of the bell attracts these Evil Spirits, but the
constant ringing drives them insane and they lose their
grip and fall to the ground.
